Turkey Trip

Our specialist Felt-Maker goes to Turkey. Barbara attended a 5 day intensive course to learn traditional Turkish felt-making i.e. 'Osman technique' run by Mehmet Girgic. By the end of the 5th day she had made a beautiful colourful rug from 100% lambs wool, the colours were produced by using Mehmet using natural dyes. Inspiration for her design came from a traditional Turkish design. Mehmet is internationally known for his felt rug making. His shop is situated on a small but bustling street in Konya, colourful Kilim woven rugs suspended from shop fronts and many atmospheric antique shops lined the streets bursting full of fascinating local antiquities. Left - Barbara on the first day - Sitting on her paper design which was cover with a clear plastic taped to th floor. After rolling the outline of the design she wets the fibres and lays them down, working directly onto the plastic, tracing the outline of her design. This stage is followed by laying down the coloured felts. Right - Barbara and Mehmet completed the rug at midnight- just in time to take the rug home the following morning - Absolutely shattered but happy! Barbara gives a very colourful slide show and talk on her trip in Turkey. To book, contact her directly through barbara.meek@hotmail.com She say's 'What an absolutely brilliant experience-I look at my rug every day as it hangs on my wall at home'. What an achievement'. Book Barbara to hear her experiences and see her fun, colourful full slide presentation.
